A samba-related problem appears when trying to establish a VPN Client connection on kali-Linux

I am trying to install Softether VPN Client on my kali-Linux operating system; I have a well detailed guide on how to install it under Linux. The VPN Client service has started successfully and the Virtual Net Adapter has been created successfully.
After connecting successfully to the VPN server, I try to DHCP the Virtual Net Adapter to obtain virtual IP from VPN Server, but when I run dhclient on the Virtual Net Adapter It errors out the following message :
reloading /etc/samba/smb.conf smbd only
The following steps of IP routing do not work correctly.
I do not know what does this message mean and how to resolve this problem.
Best Regards

Hi was.chm,

Welcome to LQ!

AFAIK you keep the IP you get from your ISP, and the vpn server has a different IP. All of your traffic goes through the vpn, so it looks like you have a different IP. I've never heard of a vpn client handing out virtual IPs.

Kali isn't the first distro I'd choose for Internet surfing. It's a pen test distro. It looks like the Softether client is a Windows program, which may be problematic with Linux networking. You aren't clear on where Samba enters into all this.

Why do you need Samba for a vpn on a Linux box?

Hi AwesomeMachine

I use the Linux version of Softether, and I try to run it on a real kali-Linux system installed on my pc by following a well detailed guide. All steps work exactly as explained But when I try to dhclient the Virtual Net Adapter to obtain virtual IP from VPN Server It errors out the following message :

reloading /etc/samba/smb.conf smbd only

The following steps of IP routing through the Virtual Adapter do not work correctly.I think this malfunction is because of samba. No thing in the followed guide indicates to samba, and as I am a newbie, I do not know what samba does. The kali-Linux system is fresh and nothing was installed before.

Samba is to do peer networking with Linux to Windows. You would normally only have it for networking with Windows. But since you're using Kali, it might have a different purpose for Samba.

I couldn't find anything on the Ethersoft site regarding the Linux client.

You could try a vpn known to work with Linux. You could remove Samba. But I don't think Samba is really the problem. That's not much of an error. You might also try this: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...osting-356388/

you are aware that Kali DISABLES the network BY DEFAULT

and that you ARE the ROOT user
kali is a ROOT ONLY operating system
( yes you can add non root users , but then they would NOT be able to use any of the tools )

you might want to register on the KaliForum
( if you can, some have not been able to figure out how to register there )

https://forums.kali.org/

then there is this bit
Offensive Security has classes in using there OS , but you need to test in
take( aka BUY $$$ ) the CLASSES

Wonder why your question was removed from stackexchange. One reply said it was posted in tutorials section.

This post was hold in stackexchange and was marked as unclear, I am a newbie and the English language is not the native one.
I will try to post it with more clearness on

As John VV mentioned to.

Thanks for ALL.
