A question or two about installing Red Hat 8.0 before I start:
I want to install Red Hat 8.0 over the XP OS.
(Replacing the XP OS). My questions are: 1. Will the Linux OS change the BIOS setup? 2. Is my hardware compatible with a Linux OS? I have a MS Windows XP PC with a Pentium Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50 GHZ, 4.0GB RAM, and a NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT video card. |
DO
NOT INSTALL REDHAT 8.0 IT IS 10 YEARS OLD! try fedora 19 as a modern desktop descendent, or mint or ubuntu as very popular non redhat based alternatives. |
Linux Installation doesn't change your BIOS settings. It of cos needs a own partition (or more - 2 minimum if you use swap which you should) to install. But if you replace your XP with Linux this should not be the problem. If you will "Dual Boot" have a look around here in the forums for topics in "Dual Boot".
If you use your laptop as target for security testing you can install RH 8 :-)) RH8 security |

as acid pointed out above. do not bother with RH8, its to bloody old. Put Fedora http://fedoraproject.org/ or CentOS http://www.centos.org/ on there if you must stick with a server class OS. |
