A novice in linux
 

i am A novies in linux so i still face some difficulties in understanding linux and i want to start my first installation experiment on my laptop.so i wish to know if it is adversable to do so or not?thanks.

What have you done so far with linux? As a first step, I would download a live CD or live USB and take linux for a spin without installing it. If this is your main computer, I wouldn't just jump in until you're a bit more comfortable.

If the machine is old or a secondary machine, go ahead and jump. You'll learn a lot. You might pick a distro near the top of Distrowatch as lots of people use them and you'll get online help a bit easier. Or if you have a friend who uses linux, maybe pick the same distro they have so they can help you out.

I'm guessing this laptop is an everyday use laptop. Here is my suggestion. Get a little more familiar with linux first. I'd buy a cheap old computer. you could probably find an old p4 for 30-40 dollars.

Here is why. If you sucessfully set up linux to duel boot. (which isn't very hard at all) You will accomplish having a web browser that is in a slightly different environment, and you will be able to brag that you run linux.

Don't mistake my intention. I'm trying to be helpful not a jerk. If you want to actually learn how to use linux you need a dedicated machine that you can play with, without fear of screwing something up. it's well worth it.

The other thing is that if you are going to have harware issues, it is much more likely to occour on a laptop, espescally newer ones. You're better off staring out with something less problematic.
