A Newbie's quest

Hello everyone,

I have been running linux (Mepis, Mandrake 9.2, Damn Small Linux) on old machines. I am thinking I need to learn more? When I have some time I read linuxcommand.org trying to learn command line. Through the help of GUI I am getting better at understanding linux file system and navigation. In my spare time I would love to become a full linux tech. Anybody know what path I should take? Thanks in advance, -Tom

Re: A Newbie's quest

Have you thought about using Gentoo, Slackware, or Linux from Scratch?

Move on to Debian or Slackware, then Gentoo then LFS.

Read as much as you can. Learning about Linux is a lot of trial and error.

I can't agree more with the folks saying to try a different distro. As a newbie, I feel that using Slackware has been the biggest help to me learning about linux. I've got a long way to go, but I'm getting there. Keep reading and lurk in the forums. Answering some of the posts from other newbies also seems to help drive things home for me.

Good luck on your quest

I would have to agree with Fritz. Lurk around and help as many other newbies as you can.
