A little bit of everything
 

Hello I'm a recent edition to linux using (using Fedora Core 2). Ive managed to get alot of things up and running , after some hurdles. my lcd screen especially , even though my refresh rates were accurate I kept getting an out of range error when starting up the GUI linux in fedora. Right now Ive managed to get my ntfs(readonly) and fat332 drives automounting, got my internet working on my lan card , sound works , normal display does, and a few other things. Right nowI'm looking to get proper drivers for my video card, setup my printer, and hopefully get my wifi card up and running. and that what I need help with.

For my printer I cant seem to find any drivers that work , the printer is a Canon Multipass F20 ideally I'd like the scanner portion of it to work as well but right now I'd settle for jsut being able to print. anyone know where I can get the drivers that'll make this puppy work

For my Video card I'm running an ATI-All-in-Wonder 9600 pro, Ive got it set up as a 9600pro in display settings and that seems to work for 2d , but I'd like to set up 3d and also have access to the tuner functions with the card, and I dont even know where to start to find drivers to do all that. anyone have experience with this or know where I can find the drivers

and lastly my dlink dwl-g520 wireless connection, after much much fiddling I managed to get it setup using the ndiswrapper and dlinks 2.48 drivers (Revision A) and even got the wpa_supplicant (wpa-psk) setup and installed but when I run the supplicant to connect to my router it goes through the 4 step handshake and then times out. If I look at my router its log actually says that it was a success so I'm guessing that somewhere along the way the verification isnt going back and saying to my card hey dude your allowed to use the net. Anyone know of a fix for this the router is also a Dlink , and its a Dlink DI-624, the card works find with wpa-psk in windows so I know its at least capable of working.

Im also open to software suggestions for burning cd/dvd, dvd encoding, movie watching

You won't get the tuner functions of the 9600 AIW working anytime soon. The tuner chip on recent All-in-wonders is not supported in Linux - not by ATI and not by the open source gatos drivers. Older AIW's are supported by gatos though.

For movie watching and encoding, try mplayer/mencoder. If properly configured it will accept most formats thrown at it without blinking. For CD burning I use the cdrtools package, which works very well for me. There several graphical frontends for it as well.

I'm not 100% sure on the wlan stuff so I'll leave that and everything else to others. :)

Dang thats a big dissapointment , I send them an email to see if they're planning on releasing AIW 9600 pro drivers for linux. Also is there anyway to emulate windows in linux... I do use the tv portion of my card alot , and I'd really rather not have to reboot everytime I want to watch tv etc. or do something minor that I havent figured out how to do in Fedora yet...

There is WINE (www.wine-hq.org), but I shouldn't think that would help you. It enables you to run some programmes from Windows on Linux but the drivers probably won't be supported.

Another thing you could try is VMWare. This enables you to run a virtual PC (well, however many you want as long as your hardware handles it) - but you need to have a copy of Windows on your hard disk (or you could install one with VMWare). Also it isn't free, but I think they do some trials so you can test it out.

VMWare wouldn't help with the AIW though. In order to get a device working with Windows as a guest OS in VMWare it needs to be fully supported by the host OS (Linux) as well. The VMWare host OS doesn't use direct hardware access (although it thinks it does), it uses the generalized hardware interfaces provided by VMWare.
