A good distro for a linux hater

Hey All,

I have an old computer that's has a hard drive that's about to give up the goat. In a few weeks we're going to get a new PC but I'm not confident the hard drive will hold out. I can get a new Hard Drive but my dad needs to use the computer and I'm not confident that windows 98 will transfer and he's a linux hater. What I need to know is if I fail what would be a good distro to use. I need something simple, stupid that can connect to the internet. And preferably something that will fit on 2-3 CD's because with our broadband after 5 gigabytes of data transfer it's an additional $20 a gig and I've already downloaded MandrakeMove this month. PLEASE HELP!!!

PS There is hope. He use to be a Mac hater too but has since thought about getting one

if the hardrive is an issue why not try a cd based distro like knoppix, user friendly, 1 cd, nothing to install. if your dad comes around and likes it, you could always get a new hardrive and install the knoppix. hope that helps.
good luck.
