A few questions from a potential user
Hi there
I'm considering dipping my toe in Linux waters, and had a few questions to ask. Some functional, some aesthetic... 1. Is there a desktop graphical interface that is akin in look and feel to either OS X or the upcoming Windows Vista? 2. Can MSN messenger be used on Linux, or something that would enable me to contact my messenger contacts? 3. Can I use my Netgear DG834GT and Netgear USB wireless dongle in order to cnnect to the net (ISP = Tiscali in the UK) 4. Are there many games available for Linux? Sorry for the sheer noob-ness of these questions, but gotta start somewhere! |

I recommend downloading or copying a live CD and giving Linux a test run before making any big switch. Download a couple different ones, too, because they can differ quite a bit. One might work with your hardware better, while the other might give you a better idea about some of the games that are available.

IF your in the USA you can go to any Barnes' and Noble bookstore and get a 'live' cd in the magazine section.
Also, there is a section on Linux!, where you can buy a full version of 3-4 different distros.Suse was very user friendly for a first time system. Walked me right through an install. The beauty of linux is that even if you are on dialup, for 15$ US you can buy a magazine with a full dvd install of different systems ;) |
or for $0.00 / £0.00 you can go to Ubuntu Shipit or Kubuntu Shipit and get some free cd's :D
