a few questions compiled into one

ok first one. could anyone point me to some good tutorials on creating more complex themes in GNOME? i've been looking for a few days and haven't found any showing me the kind of things i want to do (get rid of desktop icons, configure start menu to right click instead of being on the panel). if anyone could tell me how to do either of these things, or a place than could tell me i would very much appreciate it. second, i cannot get my sound card working. i'm using mandrake 10, and it brings up the driver for my riptide card, but theres no module for it and it can't be configured. i tried to install the drivers i found on the net, but it tells me it's already installed. any help on that would come with much apprectiation as well.

first, try the gnome.org community. im sure you can find links there to theme/creation sites.

yeah i've been there. they only seem to have basic tutorials.

What does "brings up the driver" mean?

Is it being listed during boot, what's the output of
dmesg??

Cheers,
Tink

oh sorry, brings up as in the hardware configuration it says that the sound card is the riptide. i'm pretty sure it bring it up in the boot. and whats the dmesg

Tinkster 04-22-2004 02:51 AM

Open a terminal, type
dmesg<enter>

Cheers,
Tink

ok, it isn't being loaded on boot. when i open harddrake it's available in the hardware profile, but there isn't any module loaded for it.

Now tell us the output of
lspci -v

Cheers,

Hi all knowledgeable linux people ;)

Well I gave Windows the boot and tried Linux a try to see if it was good for me and I have to say this mandrake system is very nice and it is much better. I'm new to Linux and I'm having the same problem stusek is having about the riptide that no sound is comming out and in the hardware it says no module for it. I'm using v10 and I tried the other drivers on the net, with no luck :(. I did what you said and here's my output:
