A few questions

I installed Mandrake 9.1 a few days ago and have encountered some problems. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could tell me the solution for these, or point me in the right direction. :)

1) Dual Monitors – How can I get an ‘extended desktop’ like in windows? – Currently my 2nd display acts as the primary screen, and the other screen shows the same image in 640x480.

I am using an ATI Radeon 8500 - I couldn’t get the Linux Drivers off ATI’s site to work – I found some threads about xfree86 – what exactly is this?

2) Internet – I can’t get this to work. Could someone please point me in the direction of a simple guide to setting this up.

3) Changing the boot order, so that windows appears at the top of the OS selection box.

Thanks. :)

look at http://rute.2038bug.com/rute.html.gz for a good guide

otherwise use www.google.co.uk/linux

or, since you're from the uk, try picking up Linux Format of Linux Magazine. They have help for a lot of stuff and have archives of some old articles on their websites. There are also forums there as well though they're not always as good as this one i don't think.

What internet connection do you have, and also any other network linked to your pc?

The default boot option can be changed via the Mandrake Control Centre, Boot options, configure bootloader/Lilo.

I think you'll find XFree86 is the system which deals with all nice gui things you see. anything more than the simple command line/console/terminal. :)

I have ADSL, and I use a D-Link DSL 504 router. I have not networked the computer.

Also, when I select reboot, there are no options - surely it should give me the option of rebooting in windows etc...

thanks.
