A few problems I can't fix


Since i have switched to linux I have not been able to use my web cam and i know it has something to do with drivers cause the cd that came with the webcam says it has drivers for windows and thats it, also my cd player/burner has stopped working which i find really odd since it did work when i first installed linux, but again i have no idea why and dont know where to look to fix these things......help please I am really a newbie to this.

You could start by mentioning _which_ webcam you have, and maybe _how_ your cdrom isn't working. We are not mind readers

Sorry....my webcam is a G-Pheonix make........this is what my control center says about it


PC Camera

Manufacturer: Vimicro Corp.

and my cd player/burner had worked before but now says insert disc even when there is one in there.........just doesnt seem to read any discs music or cd-rw

Looks like your camera wants the dkms-spca5xx driver:

You may also find this useful:

As for cdrom, there is still not much to troubleshoot this issue from.
You can try putting in a music CD and trying `cdparanoia -vQ`. This will at least give you some info and any errors if it cannot find a disk.
