a few easy questions mostly about mandrake.

I'm using mandrake 9.1 and have a few questions about it.

1) What is devel?

2) How do I change my homepage for konqueror? I changed it under the settings but I still get the mandrake one. I have to click the home button to go to my homepage.

3) Are there any other editors that allow vertical highlighting other then kdevelop?

4) Why does my resolution get so big and distorted when I logout of X. It's not like that when I first boot. The font is like an inch high and really distorted.

5) Why does mandrake use all my ram all the time? I use to have 256 MB of SD PC133 Mhz, then I upgraded to 512 MB of ddr 333 Mhz. I didn't/don't notice any lag but Mandrake still uses all my ram. Also, it only shows that I have 499 MB. Before the upgrade, it had shown 250 MB.

Thanks for any help.

5. Are you using a laptop? As far as I know, laptops take their video RAM from the currently installed system RAM to save space. Therefore, your laptop is using 13MB (?) for the video whereas it used to use 6MB.

1) devel is development. Are you asking this because of the devel-packages?

2) No idea since I don't use Konqueror. Check if everything is ok.

4) Console/X resolution, they're different. If you want you can have 800x600 in console mode and 1024x768 for X. You set the console resolution in your boot loader config.

5) This is common, don't worry about it. It's how LInux administrates the RAM.

2) click on the home button so your on the web site, then click on "Settings" and click on "save view profile "web browsing" ... " this should make Konqueror come up on your home page.

Awesome! So much help. Thank you all. I just wanted to know what devel mean't, no more. The home page worked. Thanks. I'll try the console res and see what's up. I don't like the idea of messing around with the bootloader but it must be conflicting with my nvidia drivers. I am not using a laptop. I'll put my hardware specs in my signature from now on. Thanks again everyone.
