9.0 Shrike installation causes a blank screen
Hello
I am trying to install Redhat 9.0 Shrike and it reaches a point where it is probing for VGA, mouse, and then loading the server for the GUI installation. But at this point I get a blank screen for a hour, until I interrupt the installation and causing the reboot. Basiclly I cannot get to the GUI for the installation. I have a Nvidia 256 VGA card, sony TFT monitor. Funny thing is that the previous Redhat 7.1 installation I do get the GUI interface of the installation. Hope this is clear Please Help |

Nvidia is famous for it's drivers. I would suggest u install through text mode and once it's installed download the drivers for your card from the Nvidia site. Install and configure your screen card accordingly. Use redhat-config-xfree86 to do this. Good Luck |
Hello
Thank you for the response. I have typed in the text you told me to 'linux redhat-config-xfree86' and I still get the blank screen and no GUI interface to install the OS. Please advise Thanks |

When u bootup the install screen will appear and ask if u want GUI install or text install choose option that says text installation then follow the rest of the steps mentioned. Chow |

The answer will yes as u will not have full 3D compatibility also u may check to see with redhat-config-xfree86 that u're colour depth and resolution my not be set to it's optimum. Chow |

Yah I have a similar problem with Fedora Core 4, even when I type linux text at the boot console I still get a blank screen after about 15 minues of scrolling white text. I've tried numerous commands and the only one that actually changed anything was this: linux video=vesafb:nomtrr vga=0x317. But, all this command did was display the linux penguin at the top of my screen and make the font smaller.
