8th generation hardware
 

what is the best Linux distro for 8th generation hardware or should i just wait a while longer.

What, you mean the current Intel CPUs?

Literally any distro.

I use Fedora, so wasn't an issue for me, but I think I have tried both latest Mint and Ubuntu as liveCD and both worked fine.

Update: found a Mint 19 USB - everything works fine.

I tried Ubuntu 18.04 and it ran into errors ..just bought a i8700 processor and a Asrock Z370 series motherboard which is socket 1151 "v2".
I will try mint 19 i guess to see if that works out. Thanks for the quick response was not expecting that ! I am new to Linux but have installed it many times on different systems. Never had a problem with Ubuntu 16.04 or 18.04 on any computer. I installed 16.04 on all my brothers business computers no errors just a little driver issue here and there. I got a fatal error right at the end of the install 2 times on the new board, did not remember the exact reason for error though sry was just wondering which distro has the best repository's for the newest equipment.

the best thing you can do is to look for information on the net. But without details you will only get useless answers. So try to search: "video chip, cpu, motherboard, linux distro - including exact version" and probably will find someone which has already experience with it.

From the other hand if you won't post the exact errors you got I can't post the exact solution for that....

The 4.15 18.04 kernel's initial release in January was only 3 months after the 8th gen CPUs became available for purchase. I wouldn't expect a kernel that age to have had all the kinks worked out before the April Bionic release. So, "best" could turn out to be whichever distro both suits your other needs and provides a kernel either newer than 4.15, or the latest LTS, 4.14. Probably there aren't all that many of us here using Coffee Lake. My newest is Kaby.

Typically the CPU support isn't the issue - the kernel devs have access to all the Intel data well in advance.
It's the motherboards and disparate support chips that are a hassle - and yes, I do know first hand.

Newer mobos seldom have working support in Linux for the sensor chips.
