56k Modem Installation: help needed

I need some help in installing a 56k modem. I think that it is a hardware modem. cat /proc/pci gives me this information about the modem:

Bus 0, device 10, function 0
serial controller: Rockwell International HCF 56K data/fax/voice
IRQ = 5 , I/O address = 0xec5000000 [0xe500ffff]
Master Capable, latency = 32

I used this command (I dont know if its correct):

setserial /dev/ttys1 uart 16550A port 0xec5000000 irq 5

and I get this error:
/dev/ttyS1 Input/Output error

what am I doing wrong?

I had the same some months ago...

I FOUND a definitive answer on

They offer downloads for HCF/HSF rockwell modems (Conexant) that work pretty much fine on RH8.0 and RH9.0 and also provide a source code driver to compile if the pre-built driver does not match with your kernel version.

Pls read the installation instructions with detail. It is pretty easy.
