504 Gateway Time-out : Search option keep giving me this, just alerting you
 

Hi, Im a newby.
Im attempting to help myself, but can't even do that :-p

Search keeps giving me this page,
504 Gateway Time-out
nginx

What I'm searching, Root-how to root-get root

Attempting to apt-get apache2
pc answer- E:could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (13: Permission denied)
E:Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root?
Additional info,
latest ubuntu desktop version installed on external drive.(internal port seems to be broken on pc)

I hope your connection is fixed.
Use the sudo command to become root eg.
sudo apt-get apache2

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

The search option works or time out some times, it seems.
Maybe its not to stable on a slower connection?

When I enter the sudo command Im prompted for a password, but when I try to type, no letters appear, and I get invalid operation response...

Ok, I found out terminal don't show passwords, still, I get the invalid operation message....
