3D Accelration

Everytime I enable 3D acceleration on my graphics card it accepts and everything and says it will take effect next time I reboot, except it goes back to default. How can I fix this? I have SuSE 9.2 pro.

Have you tried to install external drivers?

ive been having this sort of problem, I think it might be a hardware conflict with the distro or something. I have F***edupdora core 3, and I have working ALSA and NVIDIA drivers, then, every , ah ... 5th or 6th time I reboot, one of these things needs to be reconfigured (xorg.conf for video, recompile for ALSA). Its a pain in the arse, so I am going to switch distros. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, thats what you should do. Id say slackware or debian is a better distro. Sorry this doesn't help much. This sounds like a stupid question, but every time you edit you xorg (or xf86).conf, you save it, right?

I have an ATI card. I know all the Linux drivers for ATI cards suck ass, but......is there anything I can do?

Ther may be some configuration missing, such as kernel support or something like that, you may follow a guide for a different distribution and try to do the same as they do changing the way to your distribution, for example here is how to do it gentoo

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/dri-howto.xml

Hope this helps somehow

if it is an older card (9200 or older) you can get native 3D support with the ATI drivers for that card. if it is newer then you are just SOL from what I have read. that does not mean you can not get it to work, but you will really have to know what you are doing to hack the drivers to make them work with newer ATI cards.

try that link, or better yet get an Nvidia card for extreemly easy driver installs and great support. FYI, i get roughly 15-30% better performance playing games under linux with my Nvidia cards then i do playing the exact same game in windows on the same system. Thank you TransGaming and the new improved WineX project now called Cedega/Point2Play
