32 bit and 64 bit Hardware difference

Hi,

I have just downloaded a centos iso ( said 64 bit on the download link )

when try to install a my dual core pc and 2gb or ram give me error that the hardware is not 64 bit.

I am setting up my system to start from the basic and prepare for RHCSA exam in future.

can any one tell me the hardware required for running a 64 bit OS.

To use a 64 bit Os you need a 64 bit CPU.
Check Google or Wikipedia to see whether your CPU is 64 bit.

thank .. i google it and it now says

system type 32-bit operating system
Number of processor cores 2
64 bit capable yes

but when i used to install the 64 bit centos it gives me error.

what is going wrong then ...

What are you googling? What is your processor?

vainspall 09-10-2012 07:06 PM

i was try to install a 64 bit version of centos on my system.

i google wither my system is 64 bit capable or not and yes it capable but when installing the 64 bit centos it says the system will not supportn longmode somthing like that ..

need help.

What exactly did you type into google?

What processor is your system using?

We can't help if you don't provide the needed information. Which is the manufacturer and exact model of your CPU and mainboard?

vainspall 09-10-2012 07:16 PM

yes its a hp slimline core 2 due system

Intel (R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20 GHz 2.20 GHz
Installed Memory (RAM) 2 GB

system model is hp slimline s3340.

what other information is required ?

suicidaleggroll 09-10-2012 07:22 PM

I'm not seeing any reason why that system can't run a 64-bit OS, but maybe I'm missing something.

Usually I would think that this may be a BIOS limitation, since both, CPU and chipset, are 64 bit capable. That would be rather uncommon (especially since HP offers drivers for 64 bit Vista for that machine), but who knows.
Since running 64 bit is, AFAIK, not a prerequisite for learning for RHCSA I would recommend to just download the 32 bit version and use that.

will give a try to 32 bit

How did you boot the iso?

Most importantly, was it booted from the BIOS or was it inside some kind of VM running under 32 bit Windows?

My mistake ... i just mixed up .. yes i was giving it a try in vmware not directly from the bios ?

Your CPU has no support for hardware virtualization, which means you can't run a 64 bit OS in a VM on a 32 bit host system.

vainspall 09-10-2012 09:59 PM

will the 32 bit centOS run on this vmware virtual machine. ?
