Post 3 partitions, swap, Fedora 23

Hello. First foray, please be gentle.Fedora 23 in a thinkpad. I ended up with 3 partitions with automatic installation erasing everything. This, from what I've read, is related to the fact I cannot suspend or hibernate because RAM is not in it's own partition. Am I heading in the right direction by trying to create a new partition to house swap? The problem is I can only keep the lid closed for sometime if I disallow for suspension, which eats up the battery with the fan. Otherwise, if I open the lid after about an hour, I have a seriously frozen login screen which only a force shut down can get me out of. I'd appreciate guidance.

A screenshot of your partition table would be helpful. The problem of being unable to suspend, hibernate and shutdown has nothing to do with a swap partition.
And welcome to the forum

Run this from a terminal and post the output - use [code] tags so it is readable.
Code:
lsblk -f
free -m
As for suspend, that is handled by systemd. As root/sudo edit /etc/systemd/logind.conf and remove the "#" from the start of the line that says
Code:
#HandleLidSwitch=suspend
Then restart logind
Code:
sudo systemctl restart systemd-logind

Your partitioning is normal for fedora 23. The LVM partition sda3 contains 3 logical volumes which act like partitions, one of them is your swap partition.
