I thought this was a computer forum. Not facebook or twitter. Am I wrong?

While this is not Facebook or Twitter, it is a community.

In the FAQ for this site, some of the benefits of registering are:
"- You become part of a community.
- You can give something back."

While there is definitely some social aspect to Linuxquestions.org the primary purpose of the site is to ask and answer questions about Linux.
