2 PC's - which one is best for linux.....

I have a desktop/tower pc dell dimension 3000 and an optiplex gx270, which would be the better pc for Ubunto, Mint or basically one of the linux OS that would be best for home use.

Either should be fine although some computers may have hardware parts that are difficult to get running. Maybe you should just pop in the live cd and see whether you run into any problems on either system. If none, throw up a coin.

Gentle hint: it does help if you give the specifications! A quick google shows they were both much the same: 2.66GHz processor and 512MB of memory. That's OK for any Linux distribution. The speed is fine — my laptop is only 1.4GHz — and the memory will do unless you want to start editing videos.

Hi,

'How to Ask Questions the Smart Way' would be one link you should look at to help us to help you in the future.

A lot depends on the hardware configuration which you omitted. You could use most modern GNU/Linux with the hardware. Some of the subsystems may require attention. Possibly roll back to earlier versions to support any legacy hardware but the systems are really not that old.

Try a LiveCD from 'The LiveCD List' to see how things feel & work. Then you can make a decision based on experience.
