2 inch wide vert. bar or stripe in the middle of my emachine d725 notebook screen.

I shut down the notebook normally. the next day i turned it on and i had this 3 inch ribbon down my screen cash has spent 20hrs, 10hrs today. need some help. emachine D725 os firefox and ubuntu....

from the description, that looks very much like a damaged display or, if not the display itself, a portion of the electric contacts along one edge. That can be caused by thermal or mechanical stress.

Definitely an issue for professional repair.
How old is the machine? Maybe it's still within the warranty period?
