2 GB file limit when creating an image with mkisofs

Hi all!
I'm trying to create a 4.7 GB fileimage with mkisofs (1.15a17) under a brand-new RedHat 8.0 and I got all the times a "File Limit Exceeded" error message when 2GB size is reached.

I do it as root.

My "ulimit -a" tells me there's no limit for the filesize.

There's no entry in the /etc/security/limits.conf.

I have tested with ext2 (1024 & 2048 block sizes) and even with ext3 (2048 blocksize).

All the times I get the same error.

Any help????? :(

Kind regards

I'm creating a DVD image file, obviously :-), and it's quite frustrating now I have my DVD-R drive working I cannot create the image! :)

It may depend on what filesystem you are using. I use reiserfs that has a max of 4GB for version 3.5. I am not sure about ext2 but it may pay to check.

it might be the filesystem but i'm having the same problem. apparently its a kernel/glibc problem. im just trying to make a virtual drive for ppc, but i can't make one bigger than 2gb. i've tried making two separate ones and appending one to the other but i still get "file limit exceeded".

any ideas anybody?

i just tried exactly the same thing using kernel 2.6.6 (i was using 2.4.26 before) and now i have a 4gb limit! *shrugs*

i still want more though. any ideas...? i'm thinking of doing it in windows at this rate
