2 Desktop environment issues (taskbar & mouse clicks)

OK Ladies & Gentlemen.

It seams that KDE has a bug that only is affecting my AMD64 based system. I have access to 3 desktops with the same basic system on them and they don't have have this problem. KDE is causing Xorg to grab the cpu and ramp up at what seams to be a doubling pace until it pegs out at 100%. I will do some more checking to see if I can isolate the cause but for now I need a stable desktop.

I have never used Gnome very much and so tweaking it seams to be a problem. Somehow I got the switch turned off that makes it display the open programs on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. Where is it? So if I minimize a program it is gone and the only way I know how to do anything else with it is kill.

The other option I have chosen is Fluxbox which I have installed. I use it on my server but have not played with the config very much, I guess now is my opportunity. The only problem is that I am not getting any response to mouse clicks except on the taskbar at the bottom. No menus no nothing. I can change desktops however.

How do I fix one or both of these?

I have looked around some on google but haven't found either yet, but still looking. I do need to get one of them fixed soon so I don't have to log in to kde to check my email. Preferably Gnome first.

Thanks.

Hello,
I don't have fluxbox, but I know how to solve your GNOME problem.
Right click on the task bar, choose add to panel and add a task selector. It may be a little different in your language (I translated mine which is not english), but you get the idea...
Hope this helps...

Thanks Agrouf

I have tried as you suggested but I don't have an applet like that. I was playing with the config of the 'hide windows' applet shortly after that is when I noticed that the apps were not displayed any more. I had some apps hidden with it when I messed with the config and I think that is what did it. I thought about removing it from the panel but was not sure that was something I should do.

Right click in taskbar and select 'Add to Panel'. The applet you need to add is "Window List".

Thanks arijit_2404

That works.

I did get a menu of sorts in Fluxbox too. I had to point it to the right menu file as per README.Debian I think.
