2.6 kernel will only boot when I select it with LILO
Hello everyone!
Knoppix HDD install here, and I am racking my brains to figure out what's wrong. If I let it choose 2.4 at boot, it will not boot. the kernel panics, and it freezes up. If I choose 2.6 at boot, it boots fine, but it's not my default. I have tried changing the default string to the name of the 2.6 kernel and then I ran lilo, but it still (tries to) boot 2.4. any ideas? |
you can just remove the 2.4-section from the lilo.conf file and run lilo.
( and maybe build a new 2.4 that works ) egag |

It's so odd because when I select the 2.6 kernel from LILO, it boots, but every method I've tried to make 2.6 the default causes it not to boot. what gives? |
well...maybe post your lilo, conf file here.
and there are many "howto's" and threads on this site about kernel compiling, only i don't know if Knoppix has got a compiler with it. egag |
All right, I got a thumb drive (one of those black friday deals) so I can finally get that lilo.conf file off the machine. How would you suggest I get that file? every time I try to mount the partition using a system rescue disc, I get only an empty lost+found directory. Is there something I'm missing?
