Totally green regarding linux and would appreciate your input.

I have the 3 mandrake 10 CDs. A used 6.4 gig hard drive ready to install as a second hd. Would just like to check a couple of things before I go ahead:

1. Should I clean and format the 2nd hd with windows prior to installation of mandrake, or will the install do this for me?

2. Are there any lists of linux commands I should print out and have ready to use during the install? If so, could you please point me to what I need.

3. Should I download sound and video drivers in advance (GE Force MX440/ Sound Blaster Live 5.1) Motorola Surfboard cable modem worked fine with Knoppix, can I assume that it will do same with Mandrake?


Don't laugh if these questions are too basic for words! I have absolutely no experience with Linux and am looking forward to a huge learning curve. I'd like to get it right from the start.

mandrake has a graphical installation, it's actually easier and faster to install than windows xp, you would'nt need any commands for the installations and it will give you the option to format or partion the drive before install. As far as drivers, you might just want to download video card drivers so that it works best, other than that you should be good to go.
