1024th cylinder

One of my linux books talks about some data not being able to be read past 1024th cylinder and I was wondering if I should be concerned or resize my partition? If I should resize it, how would I go about this? In SuSE 8.1 there's a tool to do so, but being new to linux, I don't know how to resize the partition while it's mounted (I know you can't).

I have linux as the only os on a 120gb hd.

/dev/hda1
1gb
swap
start 0
end 130

/dev/hda2
110.8gb
/
start 131
end 14593

Its usually lilo that couldn't read past the 1024th cylinder. You shouldn't have a problem with Suse 8.1 as Lilo has been updated as well. Plus having Linux as the only OS, this makes even less a problem.

The 1024 problem is related to a BIOS limit. BIOS that support LBA are not affected by it--pretty much anything since 1997. When your computer is booting it give you the option to enter the BIOS Setup. Look at your hard drive and if it has LBA support, forget about the 1024 limit.

Hmm I looked around in BIOS and couldn't find anything about LBA. Oh well. I won't worry about it too much. Thanks for the help.
