Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I'm glad to say that today I'm 100% free. (feels good).
Now I'm running Mandrake 9.1, should I upgrade to 9.2 or is it a waste of time? And if I do can I upgrade and not have to burn 3 cd's? Some way of doing it off the harddrive?
Thought I'd ask the people who know what there doing first.
dunno how about mandrake but in debian there are some ways to install from network or harddrive. but you will need at least 1 CD for a fresh install.
to upgrade from 3.0 woody to sid or sarge version simply use a
apt-get dist-upgrade and you wont need CDs to upgrade to your new version :-)
(PS: i love debian)
Distribution: PCLinuxOS 0.93 and 0.92, Vector sometimes

A couple of points.
9.2 is just a slight update of 9.1 - nothing revolutionary.
10.0 will be out very soon (it's up to the second beta already) and is a leap - KDE 3.2 and a 2.6 kernel.
So, it's probably worth waiting for 10.0
If you don't want to, and don't want to download the 3 CDs for 9.2, there is another way. Basically, change your update medium in your Software Update from 9.1 repostories to 9.2 ones instead. When you run the next update, your whole system will be updated to a 9.2 system, but only the installed packages, so it takes a shorter time than d/loading the CDs.
