10.04 update fail, get a BusyBox v1.10.2 error" update‏
 

I have tried numerous times to install ubuntu 10.04 through a CD and it always fails to boot. I get a message similar to this one: "BusyBox v1.10.2 (Ubuntu 1:1.10.2-2ubuntu7) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

(initramfs) -"

I have ubuntu 9.10 installed at the moment, and when I update it to 10.04, through update, I still get the same message.

If I were installing from a cd like I was, I could MD5 test the ISO I downloaded and check the CD for defects, but what about when all I'm doing is updating from the update manager?

"similar" errors are no good - we need the exact error message. For instance, there is usually a line just ahead of the the one starting "BusyBox" which trys to say why it dropped to shell, then it says "Dropping to shell".

Helps to know the circumstances too - like are you using the wubi install method or the regular repartition method?

I did a fresh install today off the live cd, and at the end, instead of it saying remove cd and press enter to reboot, it gave me a long error message that repeated it self with the number at the end changing each time:

[1250.440771]end_request:I/O error,dev sr0,sector506416

We normally see this error when the optical and hard disks share a controller. In the old days it happened lots when they were both on the same IDE controller and set to cable-select. The errors repeat for ages then drops to shell.

You can press the eject button on the drive, remove the disk, and reboot.

What happened?

I was told that my video card is too old, being it's only 64MB and that's why Ubuntu 10.04 wont run on my pc.

Besides - even if you lacked system RAM, that would not give you that error.

However, you may want to go into bios and check that your card can also use system RAM.

You don't seem to be interested in assistance, since you have not responded to any of my posts.

My apologies, newbie here... I am getting answers from 2 websites at once, and don't have a lot of time to deal with this situation like I would ideally have. I appreciate your help so far, and am feeding your answers to the other site, which is part of the delay. Thanks for your patience and hopefully I can resolve this ASAP.
