0 hdd space available, although 5 GB not used

Hi All,

I've got a Gentoo running quite well for years. Suddenly one of partitions (ide hdd) shows itself as full although it has a few Gigs released. df -h shows the following weird information:

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hdc1 113G 108G 0 100% /share/music2

Samba also mounts it as full. e2fsck does not show any errors. Could you please help me with this?
Thanks in advance,
Sharer

Just guessing....
Maybe because all the available blocks are used. By default, ext3 uses 4K blocks. du with no flags reports that each file <4K takes 4K on the disk.

Assuming ext2/3 file system I would think the difference would be reserved space.

Probably you were right

Initially I was mainly removing big files that freed space but did not change the situation. You inspired me to remove more small files, that seemed to work:

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hdc1 113G 97G 11G 90% /share/music2

Thanks!

This space is reserved for root. For an ext2 or ext3 filesystem, you can use tune2fs(8) to change the amount reserved. Look at the -m option.
