“Failed to start session” after update

After updating my system via the add/remove software application, I was prompted to reboot my system. When I type in my password to login, I am given the “failed to start session” error. I opened the terminal and attempted to update with pacman -Syyu, but it failed to retrieve file ‘multilib.db’
I am running Antergos-KDE and really don’t want to have to reinstall and lose my data, any help is appreciated.

begs the question, what happened between now and then?
(yes, you updated. but what? post your pacman log?)

how do you open a terminal after gui login failed?

also, journalctl should've some more definite information about what's wrong.
