Smile [Ubuntu] Problem with ~/Private (EncryptedPrivateDirectory)

Hi!

I have had an old Ubuntu system lying on an abandoned partition on my hard drive. Tonight I installed Super Grub Disk2 on a SD card just to be able to check it out. So, I booted into for the first time in three years or so.

It defaulted on our old family account for the computer. I tried a couple of passwords but couldn't remember it. I was about to give up but then made it into another SUDO:ers account through terminal. I then ran the "passwd" command on the family account, just to be able to get back in with it.

Now, it seems I had EncryptedPrivateDirectory enabled already back then (2010 or so), so when trying to get back on the new password was indeed accepted but my home folder comes up as empty and no X profile so it's all pretty much a lock up when trying to log in.

Have I messed up completely or is there any way for me to regain control over the files?

Hi-

You might try managing your files and folders with permissions.

This link at Ubuntu was solved by a member that used Cryptkeeper.
I don't have experience with that application; sorry.

If you don't remember the encrypted password I'm sorry I don't know how to change it.

This link might help.
