[Q]Kubuntu 14.04 Amarok Player and Video player not playing music and video

Hi guys, I know you all are a little busy with your lives and have other work to do. But if you have a little time for a child who wants to know about Linux please help me.

Not taking more of your time let me tell you my problem. I wanted to know how to play audio in Amarok Player. Neither it plays a file if I open the file from the application and click on play nor when I open it from File Explorer. The same problem is with my video files. I tried using mp3, m4a,mp4 and avi formats but in vain. The system sounds and the sample music is playing.

Please help me.

Try opening amarok from a terminal. Open your terminal and type this command in the terminal:
Code:

amarok --debug
Now try to play an audio file and then look at the terminal and you may find some useful information that will help you solve your problem.

Did you install the "kubuntu restricted extras" from the ubuntu software center? That should allow you to play those formats, unless you mean they work on other players but just not on amorak.

Sorry but I have no knowledge of interpreting those codes. I tried out your method and after playing something there are some codes which originate but I don't know ho to get my work done by them.

They work on Windows and Android if that's what you meant.

Windows and Android are not Ubuntu though. So you need to install the right software for your OS. Here are some useful links

Look on the second link for the "alternative decryption software"

That is not what I meant. Look in your kubuntu menu for the "ubuntu software center" and click on that. Then, when you are in the software center, search for "kubuntu restricted extras" and see if it says you already have it installed. If not, then simply click install.
