[HELP]Broken windows booting. Able to boot to xubuntu.
Hi,
I am very new to linux. Not yet converted to Linux. Now i am using xubuntu (feisty fawn) Can't boot as well. Trouble is caused by installing wrong linux (ubuntustudio) and with LILO as well, but as it's in text format, so i can't understand it. Decided to cancel it, and voila... My linux and windows are gone. Make a clean install of xubuntu, now i can't boot to windows. I know i can do the hassle by booting from the windows boot CD and repair the MBR, but it will remove the grub and will make me install the xubuntu again (done that!). So, please let me know what to do to activate the windows boot again? Oh ya, i am using windows server 2003 and windows XP media center (usually given choice after grub windows) Hereby i show the "sudo fdisk -l" Code:
root@bule-xubuntu:~# fdisk -l Thanks. |
What's really wrong with Windows booting, any error messages?
I might just try loading the Windows Recovery Console and doing the repair stuff you mentioned, if it works (doesn't work on my pc at least), because reinstalling GRUB doesn't mean reinstalling the whole Xubuntu. You can just as well create a bootdisk (or use Xubuntu setup disc!) and after you've fixed the MBR so that Windows boots normally, boot from the bootdisk/setup disc of your Linux and run grub-install for your hardware installation, followed by a grub-update (to fill the list of operating systems). |
