[All Linux distribution] What they did to Our linux
I know Linux OS include the fellow parts:
1,kernel 2,shell 3,driver modules 4,application software 5,development tools. However,I found that there are too much Linux, some of them even have the same parts which I said above. Now,I just want to understand:We have the same kernel, shell, modules software, tools. Why we build the different OS:Fedora Debian,Open Suse,CentOS,LFS,etc????? What's the relationship between the distributions???? |
Because the kernel, shell, modules, software & tools can be put together in many many different combinations of versions and dependencies and you missed out "configuration" which is done in many different ways by many different distros.
The other, more simple, explanation is that different distros suit different purposes. Some are for beginners at home. Some are for Point and Click ex-Windows systems administrators. Some are for the most advanced users. Some are for datacentres, some are for notebooks. Some are only for use on small equipment like routers. Why do you think there is more than one type of car? |

Kinda like the same reason you would get windows xp for your desktop and windows server 2008 for you web server. But in this case the software is build for the needs of their OS. For example Ubuntu comes with a kernel compiled best for running on a desktop and CentOS compiles their kernels to run best as a server. Then all the other software is build around those needs.

Thanks!!Now I know the different distributions are created for different purpose through the configurations.
I don't know what kinds of configurations need to do,But it must be recovered in the future. Mr.Zordrak and Mr jmc1987,Your example made me know how the diffenents created . Mr.Brezee, the Webs you listed had added to my Delicious , the wikipedia page tells me alomst everything. Mr.Sycamorex, you must another Obama, haha~~~ |
