video/dvd

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design6/news.html
http://xinehq

dependancies for xine/mplayer:

http://shrike.freshrpms.net
http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/redhat/...86/ByName.html

you've already got the link to xmms which has mp3 support.

audio editing:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

for games, you'll have to search around.
ut2k3, quake3 have demo linux ports
look at loki games too. they still have their servers running for demo downloads even though they went out of biz.

if you are so cantankerous, that you insist to read linux files form windows check out explore2fs , which will enable you to read ex2file system under windows

here is the link
http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux/explore2fs.htm

i d/led this and nothin happens when i open it.. i see a "windows explorer" type window with no folders or partitions..

I just browsed this thread, man, and if you don't backup your XP parition pdq, you're going to be because you're going to lose your whole system. That's the thing you should get right now
