'Windows files' on Linux?

Hi, I'm about to make the switch from XP to Mandrake, but I have one primary concern. I have a large collection of oggs I have ripped onto my XP machine. If I switch to Linux I will not have access to these files because they are on the Windows file system, correct? I only have a 40 GB hard drive which is my primary concern.

Thank you,

You will most definitely have access to you windows filesystems. When you install Linux, if there is a Windows partition, the installer will most likely see it and create the appropriate mounting entry in the fstab for it, if you choose to.

One thing to note however, it if you'r dealing with NTFS, you'll be able to read the filesystem with no problems, but being able to write to it is a bit tricky (it can be done though).

that is an odd thing i myself am running mandrake and windows 2000 on the same hard drive and i get a message saying it cant read NTFS, (the file system in windows NT and 2000, XP)so i made a FAT32 (the format for the 95,98,ME) partition to transfer over files but i thing i read some where that mandrake 10.0(which at the moment is a community only distro) you should be able to view NTFS
