'10G Media' instead of just 'hda5'
I did an apt-get dist-upgrade from Sarge to SID, kernel from 2.6.8 to 2.6.12.
I'm using Gnome, and in "computer:///" and everywhere else i see, for example, "10G Hard Drive: 10G Media" instead of the "hda5" I saw before. This is a problem for me, because almost all my partitions are 10G big, so I can't differentiate them any more. I think it's a kernel issue, because I tried Ubuntu (kernel 2.6.10-5) and it also showed "10G Media...". How do I go back to the old notations? |
Actually, I believe this has to do with hald. You could always label your partitions, and it would display this label instead of '10G Media'.

Yup, that's a HAL + dbus thing that is included in the new Gnome. I'm not sure if there is a way to turn it off since I don't use Gnome but you can always either disable hal or as Matir suggested, re-label them :)

Thanks, I'll try that.
