"$Home is unwritable" error for all but root
Hi,
First can I say that I am a complete newbie to Linux - it's great - I just don't know how to use it, so baby language would be appreciated. My problem, I have a vaio laptop that came with xp and I wanted a change and something more stable so I partitioned and installed linux. It worked fine for the first few days, but (after I was tinkering with the display properties) it would only boot with a text login screen. I tried typing kde after logging in, and it loaded but I can only get access to the root, any other user gets a message something like "$Home is unwritable". All I changed was the resolution and the virtual desktop. Is this a permissions issue and if so how do I fix it? Thanks, David |
Did you try typing startx instead of kde as a user. If not go to the /home/ directory and "ls -la"

Thanks, but I got it sorted. I created a new user and deleted the old one. Don't know why this work, but it does.
