$path

I am logging into a firewall (Red Hat 8.0, without X-windows) from a workstation (Suse 8.0) via ssh. If I log in as root everything is fine. Howevr, when I first log into a user account and then su to root I end up with the user account $PATH, so /sbin isn't in the $PATH.

What is the "recommended" (i.e. sequre) way to fix this hick-up?

I can of cause log in as root and the issue goes away. However, from a general sequrity point of view I would prefer not to log directly into root from a remote machine.

su -

This sets roots $PATH.

Also, you can source /etc/profile (I think) and that too will set your path as the current user.

Cool
