Zyxel ES-105A switch support

Hi everybody.

Doesn't Zyxel switch ES-105A work with linux or am I doing something wrong?

I have an old machine running CentOS 6.7. If I connect it directly to my modem router my connection runs without problems. If I use the switch, the connection fails. I would rather use switch than connect both computer to router since the distance to router is about 20 meters (65 ft).

I have tried settings ip's manually, but I'm not really sure what I'm doing. I'm a noob.

If it is a switch problem, what would be a better switch?

The Zyxel is an ordinary unmanaged Layer 2 device. There should be no reason that it does not play nicely with your CentOS machine. Have you tried power-cycling both router and switch? If you assign a static IP address in correct subnet can you then ping the router and/or other connected devices ok? Is your ethernet port negotiated as expected? Check with ethtool eg

Code:
ethtool eth0

Another thought - check the cable between router and switch. You could substitute your computer for the switch just to check that good connectivity exists on that cable length.

SOLVED

I feel stupid, since I was pretty sure that the problem was more complicated one. It was the cable between switch and my CentOS. A cable that not so long ago worked well with another installation, but now it had suddenly become dead. Thank you, ferrari for pointing me to more obvious direction.

Glad to have been of help. Sometimes it is the simple things that need to be checked first.
