Zebra and OSPF?

I was just wondering if I needed both zebra and ospf running in daemon mode to get OSPF to work?

Also, for zebra/ospf to work would I need to leave their ports open to other routers they interact with (I mean the ports I telnet into for configuraiton) or do they use a differnet port when sending out updates?

Thanks for your time.
