ypbind problem running NIS
Hi,
I have installed red hat 7.2 on pc which is hooked to the network. Before running NIS I ensured that yp.conf should have the domainname and the server name. Everything works well except that ypbind is unable to bound. The same setup I used for red hat 6.2 which works smilingly. Can someone say where is the missing link which would make life easy. Thanks in anticipation. |
I am fighting the same problem. I have modified /etc/sysconfig/network to include the NISDOMAIN parameter too, but this doesn't help either.
And if this is really documented in the man pages, please point me to which one. man domainname say that all you have to do is use it as su to set this name, but that does not change it permanently.:study: |
I believe I have found a work around for my problem. I started ypbind manually, logged into the system via Xfree, then used the service manager to start ypbind. When I rebooted this system, domainname displayed the correct value and ypbind starts successfully.
Now to figure out what the service manager under X does differently so that it can be duplicated on the command line. |
In the nsswitch.conf file on the line starting with "hosts:" put "dns" as the first entry infront of "files" and "nis".
