YouTube vs GEMA (routing, squid, openVPN)

Hello everyone,

this is my first post and I am no native speaker, please excuse my weak english (and IT) skills.

This week I just got enough of "This video is not available in your country..." and I have rented a server in the United States which I want to use to hide my location in Germany. I am now looking for ideas (and maybe help) how to setup "something" which can route traffic from my LAN to the IP-range of Google through the server in the USA to get rid of geo-ip-blocking.

What I have at hand:
  • My LAN (192.168.0.0/24)
  • A pfSense router which connects the LAN to the internet
  • A server in the USA (Debian)
  • OpenVPN on the router and the server in the USA
  • squid(3) on the router and the server in the USA

What I want:
I want to get traffic to the IP-range of Google routed through the server in the USA (because of this)

With what I have failed so far:
  • setting up a proxy on the server in the USA and configuring this proxy in my browser (I did not manage to get the streaming content through the proxy)
  • setting up a VPN (thats the working part) and a proxy on the router (maybe I am totally wrong with that)
  • setting up a static route to 74.125.0.0/16 which uses the server in the USA as the gateway (the router is complaining about that the server in the USA is not in the same network as my LAN and can not be a valid gateway because of that)

I simply do not know enough about routing/networking and how proxies are working. Can someone please give me a general idea what setup would be used to get the job done? Links to howtos for similar scenarios are also very appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Sincerely

n0xx

Hi,

I've answered questions like this before, but at least one mod interpreted it as breaking the rules of the forum...
What you are asking is possible, and there are plenty of people who can help you, but you'll have to ask somewhere else.

Sorry,

Evo2.
