xsmbrowser netbios networking with windows

Hello All
I have a few computers most running win98. I set them up to use netbios to talk to each other. I did not bind tcp/ip to client for ms networks or file and print sharing. This was recommended at Steve Gibson's web site.
I currently have RedHat 9 on a laptop and would like to share files with the windows machines. I installed xsmbrowser and can not get it to see the windows machines. I can ping all of them just can not see them.
I have been reading quite a bit and am burnt out at this time.
I read about a program called swat that I would like to try. The only one I can find is i386 and I believe I am running i686. I have installed the wrong programs before and pulled my hair out getting rid of them (getting good at that though hehe). Also should swat match with the samba I have installed.
Any help getting me going on this netbios thing would be appreciated.

check ur /etc/samba/smb.conf. xsmbrowser checks that file first. make sure that the workgroup option is the same as the workgroup where ur windows boxes are located. u don't have to have samba running here. then, u can try using the default Samba Wins service when u startup xsmbrowser.

also, try looking for some references for:

Sorry about not getting back to you on the above.

I am on another quest that has me baffeled. Trying to install java.

I never did get xsmbrowser working I did as you suggested and set the smb.conf file to the name of my workgroup which is just named (home) still no go.

The thing that I do not understand as I stated above. Does smb have support for netbios if not I might have to bind the tcp/ip back to client for ms networks and file and print shareing.
