XP Pro clients and Samba

I got a laptop here at work with XP Pro on it. Now I need to get it to log in to a samba server at boot. I can get it so it sees the samba server, but I don't know what to do to make it log in at boot so it'll run the login scripts.

Anyone know what to do? I tried searching the forum, but it won't take search elements shorter than 3 characters (like xp)

Thanks!

when you say login at boot it sounds like you want the samba server to act as a pdc or primary domain controller. If this is the case then do a search for samba pdc for how to set it up.

If you mean to just have access to files at boot then maybe you are talking about mapped drives that reconnect at login.

if this is a problem with actually performing the task on xp then you are in the wrong place. Use the xp help and look for mapped drives. Or the network setup to login to a domain if that's what you are trying to do.

Do you have an account on the Samba server? You must have an account in the same name as the Windows Networks login. If you are logged in as "somebody" on your laptop, then there must be a "somebody" account on the linux box. And, then the smbpasswrds file has to import the linux passwords -- I have forgotten precisely how to do this, but these are the steps necessary to log in. Otherwise, you can see the server, you can't log to it.
