XP client printing to samba server prob

Heres the situ: cups works. i can add/remove printers and print test pages from a) the cups browser menu (using IE on the client) and b) from the server command line itself. The server is acting like a PDC with all the authentication working.

What i am trying to do is get the XP printer wizard to use the samba servers printer and also use the driver that is provided on the server aswell. What actually happens when i use the wizard isthis: it can see the printer by browsing to it. you can select it and it seems to connect it and store it in your printers and faxs selection.

When the printer was selected and installed, it did NOT ask for a driver which would, i presume, suggest that the driver on the server was used? However, when clicking on the server properties and selecting the 'print test page' option shows this dialoge:

Test page failed to print. Would you like to view the print troubleshooter for assistence? I am using cups version 1.1.18 and samba version 2.2.3a-12 here are the relevent parts of my smb.conf:

[global]
#printing
load printers = yes
printing = cups
printcap name = lpstat
map to guest = Bad User

[printers]
comment = All Printers
path = /var/spool/cups
browseable = no
public = yes
guest ok = yes
writeable = no
printable = yes
create mode = 0700
printer admin = administrator,root
print command = /usr/bin/lp -P %p %s -r

[print$]
comment = Printer Drivers
path = /etc/samba/drivers
browseable = yes
guest ok = yes
read only = yes
write list = root,administrator

Is the XP user also a user on the samba box?
smbpasswd
Check the log files in /var/log/samba or wherever your distro puts them.
Good Luck, and trash that M$ stuff :-)
