Okay, I have a question here. I have a router/firewall set up on Mandrake 9.1. I am using Shorewall as the firewall. I don't know that I have all the rules set up right, but I will work on that.
Right now I am getting a error message at least once every second in the /var/log/messages file. It is below:
May 30 11:11:43 wallbert xinetd[7882]: warning: can't get client address: Transport endpoint is not connected
May 30 11:11:43 wallbert xinetd[7882]: libwrap refused connection to sgi_fam from <no address>
I am sure this has something to do with the firewall but I haven't been able to figure out what. Can someone give me a helping hand??
Can you tell us what MSEC level you're running on "wallbert", if it can resolve all hostnames and if /etc/hosts.{deny,allow} block access to the FAM service?
You could also check out Mandrake's bugreports to be sure. If you find a fix/workaround there, please consider posting it here.
I don't know that this will help, but the errors are gone. I decided there were several strange things happening with my install for MDK9.1 so I cleaned the drive and started over. I was planning on going with Vector Linux but the ISOs seemed to have disappeared. So I with MDK9.1 again but skipped all the wizards. Anyway, I haven't seen the error, or all of the other problems, since.
For what it is worth, I know the host.deny included 'all'. I had to add sshd to the host.allow to allow me to ssh in. I would assume this meant that FAM was blocked as well. However, I am sure this is still true with my new install. I can check if you are curious. Oh, as for the MSEC level, I am not sure what that is.
Thanks for the help and information. The more I work with and learn, the more I realize there is to work with and learn! It is a never ending cycle. I love this OS!!!
