XDMCP REMOTE access

I use Fedora core 4 and have a Xmanager2.0 installed in my winxp.
The SSH server is started in my FC4 WS but there is a fireware between
my winxp and FC4.
<1> If my winxp and FC4 is in the same network.(FX:192.168.11.0/24)
Then I can broadcast the FC4 SSH server by Xbrowser tools in Xmanager.
And I can login with GUI.
<2> If winxp and FC4 is in the different network range.
Then I can not broadcast the FC4 ssh server and can not login with GUI.
But I can ssh the FC$ server by a command prompt.

I wonder how to login with GUI/XDM from winxp to fedora when a fireware is between the winxp and FC4 pc by using xmanager or other software?

Thanks!

Wow; people still use XDMCP? I would recommend something like VNC. Fedora Core comes with RealVNC ("vnc" & "vnc-server" packages).

Unhappy XDMCP

Not to bump this post but, I was previously using XDMCP for connection from my XP box to Solaris9 (within my network). I'm on day 3 with Fedora Core4 and am having trouble accessing my Solaris workstation. I can still boot into XP (=() and XDMCP to it, but when I try to access form Gnome login screen, it seems to find my Solaris machind (only after I type it's IP) but does not connect. The Solaris workstation is on the old side (ultra 5) so I increased the login timeout and still nothing. Can someone help me as I don't know what direction to go from here.

Spooon; you sounded surprised when UltraSoul asked about XDMCP. What is so wrong with it (advantages/disadvantages)? You also mentioned VNC. Could you maybe point me to a vnc tut?

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

can't help with XDMCP but I can HIGHLY recommend you take a look at FreeNX http://freenx.berlios.de/

WAY WAY faster than XDMCP or VNC, much easier to install and much more secure

THere are links on the above site for a free client download from NoMachine which is necessary to use with FreeNX.

Well worth the time

Dave
