xchat not logging in


i've xchat 2.07 installed in mandrake 10.0 sys in my college.in preferences network setup type is wingate.the problem is that when i connect to any sesver say dalnet xchat says it is connected then "now logging in" appears and does not proceed to the next step and stays perpetually there till i close xchat
could somebody help me out
