I am a newbie and started lately with RedHat 8. The detail: I set up two physical networks, each with one hub. One server(network A) for data processing of staff and students and serves as a proxy server. Network B, it is just to give the workstations the ability to print and file sharing. Problem: Server on network A, I installed two NIC's the one serves the network A and the other must be activated to serve Network B. Firstly how do one do this, Secondly, How do one maintain security. The two networks must not be able to comunicate although they must be able to share the same server and its resources.
Please I vould value any support. I started to read up things about Linux but this is time preshured and so I need some quick facts and solid information.
I do apologise, I am totaly new with the Linux systm, only started this year. I am still reading a lot to get up to date witht the termonology, if I see a new term that I do not understand I try find out what it is. Please bare with me.
The security is to separate the two networks from comunicating. Network A is for the students at the campus and Network B is for the admin block, But the two networks must be able to have internet and mail connections with the survice provider. This is where the Linux Server comes to the fore. The Linux Server must act as a file surver for both network A and B, be a proxi and a backup system. In future a database will also run from it. This might sound as an owverload and a missuse of a server but we are a small institute with about 25 computers on campus.
The layout: The server has two NIC's installed, Nic 1 is connected to Hub/Swich 1 for network A. Nic 2 is connected to Hub 2 for network B.
This might be wery simple but still I find it pritty complicated. The reason for the two NIC's is for security reasons, they run on difrent IP addresses - is this setting correct?- Now from here do I set up a router fungtion, bridge or must I use some software package?
